3. The Lion is Ashamed To Feel Afraid
I'm just so embarrassed,
a lion once mused,
To jump when a cock cockadoodle-dee doos,
Great Jupiter, help out this
poor ignoramus!
Where is that great courage
that makes lions famous?
So Jupiter took him along for a joke
To the home of an elephant tall as an oak,
They called into one of his dark habitats,
Go away!
came a voice,
I'm hiding from GNATS!
They fly round my head, they
buzz in my ears,
They first make me cry and then
swim in my tears,
They fly up my trunk and they
chew on my soul!
They might kill me! I can't
even go for a stroll!
How lion did laugh at the cries of the brute,
So much larger than he but more frightened, to boot!
Then Jupiter led lion back to his lair,
Where roosters still scared him, but he didn't care.
MORAL: Even the great have foolish fears.
