Guide Me Another Day
Guide Me Another Day contains 12 original Cleary songs for church choirs or soloists. The album
was much admired by composer Rory Cooney and by British lyricist Brian
Wren. Cooney said: "The lyrics of Cleary's songs are full of surprises,
most of them pleasant. His appreciation of the sacramentality of ordinary
life is apparent .... "Anaweem"
is a lovely melody reminiscent of Jacques Brel." Said Wren: "I liked the hymn 'My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken
Me?' It is stark, fresh, and theologically strong. I can see it being sung
by a congregation ...but I'd also listen to it and be gripped by it from a
solo voice." Many settings for classic poems by Hopkins and Dickinson.
