A SONG OF A BUTTERFLY

I leap into the sunshine,
I dance across the air,
I glorify the afternoon
                and ridicule despair,
My wings a sunny yellow
Or wild design of gold,
I hint of hope for all the things
                that prophets have foretold.

I know, dear God, my message
Seems trivial and droll,
Because I'm a lighthearted bug
Some think I have no soul.
But beauty goes with fairness
And justice as a boon,
So dancing joy implies the hope
                For justice late and soon.

Amazing grace and beauty --
With justice -- I will sing,
Though I am just another bug,
                I proudly do my thing.
O Wondrous God of color,
Receive my thanks, I pray,
That I can have so rich a role
Though I live but a day.
