THE JACKAL'S OUR FATHER
Lion Father who art in heaven,
To thee I'm just the runt
Who scares up prey for lions to eat,
So -- Hallowed be thy hunt!
Thy kingdom come, thy will
be done,
On earth -- in prayer we
kneel,
Give us this day our daily
bread --
Left over from thy meal.
We Jackals know we are beloved
As strong companion hounds
Who make a lion's life a joy,
Wherever prey abounds.
Alas, the human race is harsh
In judging jackals' role,
Unknown our faithful family
life
And how sublime our goal.
Forgive our debts as we forgive
Each lion who first dined
And always got the "lion's share":
(We get what's left behind.)
So lead us from temptation's
way,
From evil guard our soul,
For thine's the kingdom and
the power,
Ours -- just a minor role.
But for that part, we bark you thanks
From our well furnished den,
Where leftovers are plentiful,
Thanks to your grace. Amen
