VESPERS OF A FIREFLY
Creator of both night and day,
I do not understand your way,
The other fireflies and I
See many things that mystify.
Oh, yes, we're glad to be alive,
And through the years we've learned to thrive.
It's fun from darkest night
till dawn
To flash and twinkle on the
lawn.
But we are terrified of day
When we must put our lamps away
And close our eyes and cease
our fun
Till nightfall drives away
the sun.
What kind of scary creatures fly
In daylight? Don't they scare the sky?
O God of Every Mystery,
Give us clear eyes so we can see
How any world of wonder must
Have room for other things
than us,
Strange things that love the light of day!
And while we're sleeping, wake and play!
