THE ANGST OF A WATERBUG
Great God, have mercy on this waterbug,
And take away my soul's complete despair.
You give me luscious lilies for a home
But I must walk on water to get there!
Like Peter, I'm a soul of little faith,
I'm terrified to step where I may sink,
Yet living on the water is my life,
And risk and danger are my food and drink.
I'm cursed with existential dread and fear,
My days are spent uneasy and harassed,
I tremble overburdened with the thought
That every step I take may be my last.
I'd love to live as carefree as the lark
And dance lightheartedly along the shore
If faith to walk on water you but grant,
I promise I won't bug you anymore.
