THE CREDO OF A COCKROACH
All glory, praise and gratitude,
Creator of bugs supreme,
For giving me a cockroach self,
with admirable self esteem.
My flattened back, my leathery shine,
my tough and slippery breast,
My bristling legs all grace and speed --
Oh, how I'm truly blest!
Give me due pride in who I am,
my longevity and might,
If some dislike or envy me:
they've got a problem, right?
Just to exist is beautiful
without added need to please.
Should I go wrong, I'll try again,
then cease my apologies.
For my part I rejoice in life,
modeled, Great God, on thee,
living my low but glorious role
with joy and fertility.
