THE DIRGE OF A DINOSAUR
Holy One, Creating Mystery,
See, at last I turn to thee,
In despair to see my fellow
Dinosaurs in agony.
Death has conquered all our
nations,
Overthrown at his command,
Killing dinosaurs by millions,
Misery fills every land.
How can you allow this carnage?
Did you not call us to life?
Watch the fascinating drama
Of our living and our strife?
...Guide our evolution till
we
Prospered many million years?
Why would you allow this
failure?
Even memory disappears!
Silent God, come live within us
Even now beneath this sky
Where the final darkness gathers
Every hour -- we know not why.
Make our deaths a revelation
To all things that live and die:
You are sovereign in creation --
It's no use to question why.
