THE LOVE BUGS' DUET
Great Mystery of all mysteries above,
Our thanks receive that we
are bugs with love.
Among the feats we’re widely famous for:
Five days our life, we mate
for two or more!
As soon as we can crawl we find a mate,
Forgetting food, rest, travel:
All can wait
While love exerts its strong resistless charm,
O God, we thank thee: Keep
us safe from harm!
Our choice: to love - or die? We choose the first
And nothing else gets done
- although we thirst
For knowledge, insight, virtue, discipline:
We leave to you our lives
that might have been.
We’re made for love, an image near divine,
A pair of bugs duetting and
supine,
Singing our prayers of praise to you above
While making out below, fast
linked in love.
